Engaging in the Great Conversations of the Great Books and the Great Ideas nestled in them, Ancient Literature beckons students to step back in time and enter the world of biblical and classic civilizations. Students walk the dusty path of reasoning well and communicating winsomely by first listening to these great conversations from the beginning, then by joining in these timeless discussions. From the restless travails of Gilgamesh to Shakespeare’s politically embroiled Julius Caesar, students learn to appreciate the esthetic qualities of each work as well as analyze, interpret, and evaluate its moral tones and themes from the biblical perspective. Ultimately, students in Ancient Literature develop an appreciation for how ancient literature reflects the worldview of its authors.

Live and interactive, this class features all nine writing units of the award-winning Structure and Style™ methodology of the Institute for Excellence in Writing®. Because Ancient Literature fully integrates its literature investigations with its writing assignments, students are afforded ample opportunity to practice their written and oral communications skills with a broad range of literary assignments.

Students in Ancient Literature participate in a private virtual classroom in which  IEW® Accomplished Instructor, Ericka McClelland, guides them through their weekly language investigations, empowering them to engage their weekly language assignments with confidence.

Overview of Topics Covered: Banned Words Review, Dress-Ups & Sentence Openers Review, Transitions, Decorations, Triples & Advanced Style, Greek & Latin Word Roots, SAT Vocabulary, Grammar in Context, Punctuation & Usage, Reading Comprehension & Biblical Worldview Strategies, Annotation, Text Analysis Strategies, Text-based Prompt Responses, Personal & Persuasive Essays, and MLA Formatting, Footnotes, & Citations, and Live Note-taking Strategies.
